Welcome from the Dean

Welcome to the College for Design and Social Inquiry! To properly introduce you to who we are and what we do, let’s start with a question: What does it take to build a community?

Our college is committed to promoting healthy, equitable communities that empower everyone to live, work and thrive – including those whose voices often go unheard or are vastly underrepresented.  Our exceptional team of faculty conduct research studies that reveal solutions to society’s most pressing problems: adapting community design for sea-level rise, pinpointing solutions for the growing global opioid crisis, optimizing relationships between communities and their police departments, building disaster management plans that maximize public safety, and the list goes on and on.

These cutting-edge research solutions of hope and resiliency are then brought back to the classroom. This is why our graduates stand out to potential employers. They know our students receive a high-quality education, filled with hands-on experience that prepares them to become leaders in their field.  In fact, many of our students accept job offers before they ever walk across the commencement stage.

I invite you to become part of our dynamic and transformative team. You can enroll as a student and become part of our expansive alumni network, join us as a community partner to foster real-world learning experience, make a financial gift of support, or simply stop by for a tour and explore firsthand the many ways to get involved in the exciting work we are doing here at the College for Design and Social Inquiry.  We need your participation and support to forge ahead with our mission!

Please take a moment to explore our five schools below and our degree programs for every stage of scholarship. Each option offers a pathway toward a meaningful, rewarding profession driven by public service, social justice or sustainable design.
