About Continuing Education
It is important to know that there are different levels of continuing education when you are choosing a class. There are college level continuing education credits and there are continuing education credits that are required for certain professions to renew their state licensure. The descriptions below will help you to better understand the differences:
General Contractor Continuing Education Units for the State of Florida
Florida Certified GCs are required to complete a total of 14 hours every 2 years prior to the renewal period for both certified and registered contractors. Certified GCs must complete their credits by August 31st of even numbered years; Registered GCs by August 31st of odd numbered years. At least 1 hour must deal with workplace safety, 1 hour on the subject of worker's compensation, 1 hour on the subject of business practices, 1 hour on the subject of laws and rules and 1 hour on Florida Building Code advanced modules. The remaining classes can be in general topics. One hour equals one credit. The classes must be taken with an approved provider with the Construction Industry Licensing Board (CILB). On our webpages you will see CILB approved for X credits. If you are unsure about the status of a class please feel free to contact us at 954.762.5184. For more information on State CEUs for GCs please visit their website at http://www.myfloridalicense.com/dbpr/pro/cilb/index.html
Architecture and Interior Design Continuing Education units for the State of Florida
Architects and Interior Designers must both complete 20 hours of continuing education every 2 years by February 28th of odd numbered years. 16 of these credits must be in health, safety, welfare topics (2 hours of the HSW must be in Advanced Building Code) the remaining 4 hours can be in optional topics. One hour equals one credit. The Board of Architecture and Interior Design for the State of Florida will recognize credits from providers whose courses have been approved by the American Institute of Architects (AIA). The FAU Institute for Design and Construction is an AIA provider, you will see that we offer classes that are listed for AIA credits. Please note that these classes will also count for CEUs with the State of Florida for both Architects and Interior Designers. If you are unsure about the status of a class please feel free to contact us at 954.762.5184. FAU Continuing Education Units
These are referred to as FAU CEUs on this website. All of the classes that IDaC offers are worth FAU CEUs. A CEU is defined by FAU as 1 unit per 10 hours. For example a class that is fifteen (15) hours is 1.5 FAU CEUs or a class that is 20 hours is 2 FAU CEUs. THIS IS DIFFERENT THAN THE RENEWAL CEUs. For example if a class is approved by CILB or AIA and it is 10 hours long, it will be worth 1 FAU CEU but 10 CILB or AIA CEUs. Please note that if you are looking for credit to renew your license pay close attention to whether or not it is CILB approved or AIA approved as explained above. It can be a little confusing so please, if you have questions feel free to contact us at 954.762.5184.
